In addition to its traditional family programmes (concerts, puppet show, pony riding and bird display), the REC's Earth Day event on April 25, 2009 focused on energy efficiency and energy-saving technologies.
A children's drawing competition was organised in connection with the Young Energy Savers (YES) project, which is supported by the European Commission. The aim of the project is to produce a series of animated cartoons that will be available free of charge to European broadcasters in order to help teach youngsters about energy-related issues.
The REC's Earth Day event attracted over a thousand visitors from the Szentendre region and Budapest. Around 100 paintings and drawings were created by young participants, who were introduced to the characters from the new cartoon series.
The YES project is funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme under the Intelligent Energy Education Initiative. For further information, please visit
