Safeguarding citizens’ health, natural heritage and cultural welfare has never been more important. According to the 2005 CAFE (Clean Air for Europe) baseline analysis (2000 to 2020), some 370,000 premature deaths and 100,000 hospital admissions are caused each year by airborne particulate matter and ozone. SMAQ (Satellite Assisted Management of Air Quality) is an innovative toolkit for managing air quality information, which has been developed and piloted under the auspices and support of the European Commission’s LIFE programme.
You are warmly invited to one or all of the three workshops/discussion forums that will take place in spring 2009 in Prague, Venice and Szentendre (near Budapest). Each event has a slightly different focus: optimising monitoring network design (March 30-31, Prague, Czech Republic); technology transferability (April 29-30, Venice, Italy) and a SMAQ Toolkit Training Workshop (May 28-29, Szentendre, Hungary).
A brochure containing further details of the three events and a registration form can be downloaded from http://www.smaqlife.org/downloads/pdfs/SMAQ_Workshops_Flyer.pdf
