PRESS RELEASE

Young Energy Savers

Monday, February 9, 2009

A pioneering new animation project to help European children understand more about energy conservation is being launched in Brussels today to coincide with the beginning of the EU’s Sustainable Energy Week.

The Young Energy Savers project (YES) will develop a series of cartoons to help get youngsters animated about energy conservation, renewable sources of energy and sustainable transport. The cartoons will be developed over the next twelve months with input from a team of leading environmental and climate experts, children’s museums and 500 children from five EU countries.

YES is the first of three animation projects that will be developed over the next two years with the support of the European Commission. The second project, ACTIVE, will create a series of animations to help children understand the importance of healthy eating and an active lifestyle; and the third, Eco-Animation, will teach children about water conservation. Visit www.animate-eu.com for further details.

The REC is one of the partners, with complementary financial support from the Italian Trust Fund.
