Cleaning of Danube River Valley in Lom Municipality from Industrial, Agricultural and Municipal Wastes. Poplar and Willow Forestation USD 5,800
NGO Name: Intereco-21 Federation, Sofia
Project Summary: Seminars for increasing the public awareness about waste management; seminars for decrease in fertilizers and pesticides usage; landslides prevention through afforestation with poplar and willow trees; cleaning the Danube banks along the town of Lom and subsequent biodiversity recovery; donating the fallen branches/trees to socially weak families. The Federation will work toghether with other local NGOs, media, local authorities and citizens in increasing the environmental awareness of the population in the region.

Reconstruction of Wet Lands Habitats in Oriahovo Municipality USD 5,900
NGO Name: Euromodel Association, Sofia
Project Summary: The main goal of the projest is supporting the state authorities in the protected areas preservation: protection of the Nymphaea alba L (Water Lilly) - rare species and (Stratiotes aloides L.) - rare species through clearing of their habitats; popularization of the wet areas habitats and their importance will raise public awareness about conservetional issues; reseach for elaborating a model for wet habitats restoration in the Danube region:

To Stop Danube River Nutrient Pollution USD 5,700
NGO Name: World for everyone Association, Silistra
Project Summary: Following /monitoring/ and reducing the pollution along a certain area near the Town of Silistra - object of municiral, industrial and agricultural discharges; monthly information dissemination about the river contamination - improving the access to information; information campains and meeting for farmers, students and industrial representatives and computer prognosys modeling of the nutrient contamination of Danube river.

Improvement of the Environmental Status of Danube River USD 6,200
NGO Name: Regional Initiative Association, Sofia
Project Summary: Conduction of the workshop on theme “How to work successfully about our cause” with representatives of local NGOs. Elaboration of the proposal of the Public Information and Environmental Education Program; Starting and carry out of the NGOs net with representative from Serbia and Romania; Preliminary planning investigation of the vegetation species on the river valley of the Timok and assessment of the current situation; Gathering of the pollution sources data for the ecological situation of the Danube River; Organisation of the school campaign dedicated to International Danube day.

Establishment of Informational and Educational Centre in the Town of Vidin USD 6,300
NGO Name: Bulgaria in Europe Association, Vidin
Project Summary: Easily accessible ecological information through information and educational centre; improvement of the awareness and knowledge of the stakeholders and stimulating of public decision-making process; stimulating the usage of alternative agricultural methods that are environmental friendly, which will prevent and reduce the pollution of the Danube River; creating new collaborating forms / the system of public information, “sailing” seminar, “round table”/ between local authorities NGOs, public, business and farmers.

Organizing a Competition for Movies and Documentary about Danube Basin Pollution USD 5,000
NGO Name: European Environmental Festival Foundation, Sofia
Project Summary: The general aim of the project is development of environmental awareness, education and direct involvement of the state and municipal governing bodies, the industry and population for prevention and reducing the flood hazards in the Iskar catchment area with the vision of improvement the quality of life of the Bulgarian citizens on the basis of respecting their ecological rights in the process of the integration of the country in the EU. The European Environment Festival is an annual event with categories for films and TV porgrams. This year a Round Table entitled: “The Bulgarian Municipality: Ecological Hazards and Their Solutions – a Way to the European Model” will be held during the festival.

More Space for Rivers and Safety for People USD 5,100
NGO Name:
Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, Sofia
Project Summary: The project envisages: mapping of the floods sites and regions and assessment of the potential of improving the river ecosystems status, elaboration of justified proposals, establishment of working group of the main stakeholders, web page creating and maintenance, carrying out media campaign and booklet publishing. The partners under the project are the Bulgarian, Biodiversity Foundation, the Danube Region Basin Directorate, the Balkani Wildlife Society.
