Improving the Practices of Public Participation:

Next Steps in Implementing
the Aarhus Convention



Regional level activities

At the regional level, relevant parties from each country were brought together to foster a cooperative environment where ideas can be shared and information on Aarhus Convention activities at international and country levels transferred. As such, three workshops were organised through the duration of the project, the first having brought about discussions on the draft country activities as well as identification of common interest issues took place in May 2005 in Ohrid, Macedonia.

Second workshop took place in June 2006 in Budva, Montenegro and was arranged as a practical training with a focus on the local level decision-making, the training materials were designed using the pilot projects as examples.

Third workshop took place in November 2006 in Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina and was organised as a capacity building event on access to justice issues for lawyers, Ombusman persons, judges.
