Neretva Delta ActivitiesTourismDevelopment of a joint rural tourism strategy Discussions were initiated on challenges and possibilities
for rural tourism through a joint action by institutions in Croatia and
Bosnia and Herzegovina. A workshop concerning a joint rural tourism strategy
for Neretva Delta was held in July 2002 in Metkovic, Croatia. The workshop
helped to ensure input from national authorities and local stakeholders
into the outline of the joint rural tourism strategy document. Sustainable tourism development workshop, A grant programme of the Croatian Ministry of Sea, Transport, Tourism and Development, supporting the integration of natural and cultural values in tourism development was presented to Neretva Delta stakeholders during a workshop on tourism. The workshop had its main goal to increase the awareness of local stakeholders concerning opportunities for rural tourism development in the Neretva Delta area. Participants included representatives of the ministry, tourism enterprises and associations, NGOs, the Hutovo Blato Nature Park Authority, universities and county and local governments from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. They studied several model projects, including the rural tourism project of the Lonjsko polje Nature Park in Croatia, and "The Old Splendour of Pelješac" project of the "Domanoeta" rural household in Janjina. The latter project was supported by the Croatian Ministry of Sea, Transport, Tourism and Development (read more at: www.dzzp.hr/News-102005Metkovic.htm). Tourism brochure on the natural attractions of Neretva River As an important step towards the promotion of Neretva
Delta as a tourism destination, a tourism brochure and poster were published
in cooperation with the Buna NGO from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The brochure,
titled “Natural attractions of the Neretva River,” presents
the natural and cultural values of the area and useful information on
restaurants, accommodations, and activities. It contains a map of the
Neretva River, with sites described in brochure marked. Both the brochure
and the poster have been widely disseminated to tourism communities, travel
agencies and other places frequented by tourists in both Croatia and Bosnia
and Herzegovina.
