The ultimate objective of the South Eastern European Environmental NGO Electronic
Networking Project is to improve the organisation and coordination
of activities within the NGO community,
and, consequently, foster a more influential civil society.
As an important catalyst in this process, the project promotes networking and cooperation among South East
European environmental NGOs by supporting environmental NGO electronic
networks.
Basic principles of the project
The following items are considered to be the basic principles
for implementing the South Eastern European Environmental NGO Electronic
Networking Project:
- Cooperation, democratic procedures and transparency
Only NGO coalitions are considered to run networks. Such coalitions
should demonstrate a good level of cooperation and potential for
partnership. Self-sustainability of the networks is an important
criterion (i.e., coalitions that will remain functional after the
conclusion of this project).
- Information exchange and capacity-building
The main focus is on the establishment/development of
electronic information networks, bringing NGOs together to share
information, raise their capacity to use modern information technologies and engage in international cooperation with other NGO
networks. The primary focus is not on technical issues.
- Regional (South Eastern
European) networking
This project is performed in each South Eastern European country.
However, since this project is part of the international Regional
Environmental Reconstruction Programme for South East Europe (REReP) process,
it also includes a regional (transborder) cooperative component.
Therefore each national network is encouraged to engage in international
cooperation by, for example, exchanging experience, running joint
services or working on cross-border environmental issues.
- Long-term sustainability of networks
We are looking for functioning NGO networks that will continue
operating after the end
of this project. A substantial number of on-line users,
self-sustainable on-line services and self-motivation of participating NGOs
is needed for consideration.
