Volvox Foundation Assembly Meeting

Belgrade, February 26th, 2005. (DMI Bor) — After three years of successful work, the Volvox Electronic Network of Environmental NGOs in Serbia and Montenegro held a “Foundation Assembly Meeting” last weekend in Belgrade, thereby establishing a new network organisation: The Association of Environmental NGOs in Serbia and Montenegro-Volvox.

Volvox founders pictureMajor goals of this new assembly will be to exchange information, experiences and knowledge between NGOs for protection of the environment by means of using electronic systems of communication. Another major goal is to improve the flow of information between environmental NGOs and government, to improving communication between NGOs and the media, and to improve information exchange in such a way that can help protect South Eastern Europe’s environment.

To achieve these goals it will be necessary to continue with previously established tools within the framework of the project titled “Balkan Bytes: Environmental NGOs Electronic Networking in South Eastern Europe.” This will encourage information exchange between cooperating NGOs, the electronic network at both national and regional levels, and will aid further activities to stimulate communication and cooperation between NGOs and government to protect the environment. If needed, constitutional experts and teams of NGOs can work to solve environmental problems through cooperation with universities and other academic institutions.

At the Foundation Assembly itself, 12 representatives of environmental NGOs from Serbia and Montenegro took part in creating and adopting a new statute and held organisational elections. The meeting focused on previous results of the electronic network and future networking activities.

The assembly elected the following representatives from all member organisations to respective two-year terms:

  • Mr Dragan Randelovic, president (Young Researches of Bor);
  • Ms Natasa Dereg, steering committee president (Green Network of Vojvodina);
  • Mr Nikola Bozic, secretary and moderator; and
  • Ms Jelena Beronja, president of the three-member superior council.
