Transition to Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles in Montenegro
Through the project “Fuel Quality in Montenegro – Phase 1”, UNEP/PCFV and the REC’s country office in Montenegro are working to ensure the phasing out of leaded petrol in the country in early 2009, and to promote cleaner fuels and vehicles overall. To this end, a national working group on cleaner fuels and vehicles is being established. The aim is to bring together both private and public entities and associations within a single working group to support a) the completion of the national phase-out of leaded petrol according to the agreed national timeline of early 2009; and b) the harmonisation of national legislation with EU standards through the expert assessment of the current level of compliance of existing fuel quality regulations with EU directives.
Transition to Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
A project funded by UNEP and implemented by the REC’s country office in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia initiated and supported stakeholder communication aimed at reducing the transition period for the phase-out of leaded petrol. The project also initiated actions aimed at improved monitoring. Stakeholder communication significantly improved due to meetings of the working group established under the project, which brought together regulators, the government, NGOs and the private sector. As a result, many disagreements were overcome and a national consensus was achieved to speed up the phasing out of leaded petrol.
